Chinese International School enhances dual-language learning with AI-driven Wi-Fi

Chinese International School (CIS) was the first K-12 school in Hong Kong to teach an international curriculum in English and Mandarin, empowering students to discover new paths and flourish in their life’s journey. With an exceptional track record and growing enrollment, CIS embarked on transforming the digital learning experience with an AI-driven wireless network from Juniper.

Learning at the confluence of East and West

CIS has been on the forefront of hybrid learning, having prioritized the use of technology to deal with local situations that made school closures necessary. When the territory faced pandemic-related lockdowns, CIS saw an opportunity to upgrade the wireless network at its Braemar Hill campus.

“CIS has been a leader in integrating technology into the curriculum, which made the shift to online learning easier,” says Sunil Talwar, deputy director of operations at CIS.

The aim was to welcome students back with a new wireless network to better serve those who had grown adept at digital learning. CIS wanted a Wi-Fi network that would meet the expectations of its students and teachers for the next decade as it advanced its vision for bilingual and inter-cultural education.

Fast, reliable Wi-Fi for learning

To deliver high-quality learning experiences and support the evolving needs of students, faculty, and staff, CIS turned to an AI-driven wireless network from Juniper.

CIS provisioned the network through the Juniper Mist cloud portal, making it simple to bring hundreds of Juniper APs online quickly. “Students and teachers came in on Monday morning, and the wireless just worked,” says Ming Lai, systems manager at CIS.

With the Wi-Fi Assurance cloud service, based on machine learning, the IT team has greater visibility into user network experiences and AI-driven tools that automate and accelerate troubleshooting and network operations. “With Juniper, we have a very clear view of what’s happening on the network,” says Lai.

Supporting students for academic success

“Lesson delivery has changed, with more media-based content and the use of multiple devices at the same time,” says Talwar. “Our Juniper network supports that learning transformation.”

With Juniper wireless, CIS has improved the digital learning experience. Student, teacher, and faculty devices have reliable Wi-Fi connectivity. Educational content can be streamed to Apple TVs in 280 classrooms. Wi-Fi is fast and plentiful even at large gatherings like sporting events and concerts.

In addition, sustainability is a core value at CIS, which has a goal of becoming carbon-neutral by 2033.

“Juniper’s commitment to sustainability is important to us,” says Talwar. “We want to partner with companies that have similar values.” Juniper aims to be carbon-neutral by 2025.
